Wall Clock by Steve Tomlinson

I first took up wood turning as a hobby but have since turned things into a small business, I mainly sell my work on my website and through a few select galleries and shops.

When I was 16 I was taught the basics of wood turning buy an old timer who had been wood turning all his life, he passed on a lot of information to me and the rest I have just picked up and taught myself as I have gone along. I make many other items as well as the wood turned ones and I incorporate many other materials into my wood creations such as coloured stones, resins, clear and coloured acrylic, cut vinyl and much more. I get ideas at the most unusual times and I have a list of new creations just waiting to be made.

Almost all my wood is supplied locally and the vast amount of it comes from sustainable sources. I guess I’m quite lucky to live in an area like Cumbria where there is a good supply of English hardwoods such as oak, elm, sycamore, ash, beech and walnut which are the woods I use the most.
